The flat square neck fixes the round head screw e.g. in an oval hole and allows tightening from the nut side without having to hold it
Depending on the type, these items are supplied with threading almost up to the head.

Use in wood construction, particularly carpentry, prefabricated house construction, vehicle construction (e.g. truck load platforms), boat building, trade fair construction, scaffolding, for heavy, separable transport racks or machines crates, transport crates for sea transport. Used to join wooden parts or wood and metal parts. The square neck is sunk into the wood. Hole diameter is dependent on thread dimension. When joining wood to wood, a larger washer must be placed under the nut, e.g. a wood construction washer.
